We have definitely gone through different toy phases in our household – with the most recent phase being all about Mario Brothers. This led to us scrambling to find all sorts of different Mario Brothers toys and board games!
One of the really fun Mario Brothers board games we found for my oldest child was the Super Mario Brothers Top Trump Match Board Game. This is a fun game that even I enjoyed playing with him – and it wasn’t so challenging he couldn’t handle it at the age of 6 – but still challenging enough for it to be fun.

Basic Mario Brothers Match Game Information
Here is the basic information you will want to know about this board game. It is a 2-player board game that comes with 25 different cubes that have pictures of different Mario characters on each side. There are actually 15 different characters represented: including my personal favorites Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Bowser, and Bowser Jr.
There are also different characters cards of each character represented on those cubes. Each player is going to draw two cards, and the goal of the game is to match the cubes with the characters you have drawn. You want to match 5 cubes in a row either diagonally, vertically, or horizontally. When you match 5 cubes in a row you get to keep that card and draw a new one. First to match 5 card/cube combinations is going to be the winner!
The game play is very simple. You start with the top left corner block being empty. You than position the cube to whatever character you want to have on your side and you push out a block. The other player gets to play that block into whatever square they want; except that can’t play it in the same slot that was just knocked out.
These rules are really easy for kids to follow, even my 4-year old will enjoy playing this game from time to time.
I also really like how this game comes with its own carrying case. It makes the game easy to store, easy to setup, and keeps all the pieces nice and contained!
Overall, it is a very enjoyable game that should be fun for younger kids!
Parent’s Annoyance Scale
One of the things I always do is tell people how annoying these different toys are going to be to parents. This toy is a little different because it is a board game – so it isn’t making noises or doing stuff that us parents normally find annoying.
Really, the biggest reason the Super Mario Trump Match Board Game isn’t annoying is the self-containment red case it comes with. This case stores everything in a really compact solution and the game itself is super easy for even young children to setup and understand. Making the only annoying part of this game the actual losing of the board game to your kids or them whining when they lose; but that is life!
I’m going to give this a 1 on the annoyance scale – if you are annoyed by this game, I can’t help you out to much in terms of not being annoyed by kid’s games!
Danger Scale
The other question we always try to answer is how dangerous these toys can be. There isn’t much to be worried about in terms of danger when it comes to the Mario Cube Matching Board game – but there are a couple of things that could happen.
Both of these scenarios involve the actual little plastic cubes. They are small enough that a 2 or 3-year old could try and shove them into their mouths. The other more likely scenario is an angry 4-year old throwing these cubes at your face because you crushed them while playing. Luckily, the cubes aren’t that heavy, so barring a direct hit into the eye – you should be okay.
If your child is one of those calm kids, you shouldn’t have to worry about much. So, I’m going to give this a 3/10 on the danger scale.
Final Grade and Links of Interest
This Mario Brothers Board Game has been a nice addition to our household. I wouldn’t consider it a gold-level all-time favorite toy, but it is definitely one that gets brought out on a pretty regular basis.
Because of this popularity, I’m going to give it a silver-star ranking and will tell you it will probably be a fun addition that gets played with on a regular basis.
